Dedicated To: Shri Kamraj, Former Chief Minister
This memorial was built in remembrance of the former chief minister of Tamilnadu K.Kamarj. He came from a poor family and became the chief minister of Tamilnadu for three times. In the year 1978 the then chief minister of MGR inaugurated the Kamraj memorial house. The building has two floors and houses the belongings and memoirs of K.Kamaraj. One visting the memorial can have a close insight into the life of the great leader.
At the basement is the personal bed room of the respected bachelor. Simple furniture decorates the bedroom and symbolizes the simple life led by the great leader. The memorial also has a good library to its credit with well stocked books. These books are volumes of ‘Loksabha debates’ ‘Doctor Zhivago’, ’100 Modern Lives’ and Churchill. At an early age kamaraj discontinue his studies but that did not hinder his reading habit.
The dining hall walls are covered with kamraj’s black and white photos. All those photographs provide a quick insight into his childhood, his teenage years and his later part of life. Some of the fascinating pictures are those of his swearing in as Cheifminister for the first, second and third time in the year in the year 1954, 1957, and 1962 respectively. Also there are pictures of kamaraj with other leaders like , Rajendra Prasad, Pt. Nehru, Martin Luther King ,Sarojini Naidu, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Queen Elizabeth ,Indira Gandhi, M.G Ramachandran, , , etc.
The memorial house’s second floor exhibits a number of his possessions like the his simple attire, pens, Felicitation Shawls, his suitcases, timepiece, and utensils. Another valued possession is the prison shirt worn by kamraj while in jail. in 1942. His other personal belonging displayed are his Gillette shaving set, spectacles. Also there photographs portraying the different emotions of the great leader.
