Kovalam Beach

Like the well known Kovalam beach in Kerala, there is also a beach near Chennai by the same name. Though this beach is not that much popular when compared to the original Kovalam beach in Kerala, it is still a well known beach among the people of Chennai.

From Chennai city, the village of Kovalam is located at a distance of nearly forty kilometers.  The beach is situated on the renowned ECR road in between Mamallapuram and Chennai.

The Koala village is a fishing hamlet. You can ask the local fisherman for lifejackets so that you can wear and jump into the sea for excitement and fun. The fisherman will also arrange for you boats for you.

The beach also has some historical significance. Sadat Ali, the nawab of Carnatic constructed a port. In the year 1746, the general of the French army General Laboudonnais landed his troops. In the year 1752, Clive, the British viceroy overtook the fort and destroyed the troops.

Adjacent to the beach, there is a beautiful Shiva temple, an unique architectural masterpiece. Since the beach is located on the Ecru. It is easily reachable by public transport or by your own vehicle.
