The world’s second beautiful and longest beach is the Marina beach at Chennai. It is a 12 km long beach that is stretched along the shores of Bay of Bengal. From Ft. St.George the beach begins and almost stretches up to Mahabalipuram

All along the beach you can watch the statues of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi. Thanthai Periyar.Thiruvallur and also the celebrated film actor Dr.Sivaji Ganesan.The beach also houses the tombs of former TamilNadu C.N.Annadural and M.G.Ramamchandran.The beach also boasts of a swimming pool, skating ground and a fish aquarium.

A light house is located at the southern end of the beach. The light house offers a spectacular view of the Chennai city. Also there a number food stalls and shops are spread along the entire beach. The Marina beach is a favourite destination for many people in the evening where they can enjoy the relaxing breeze. It is a cheap and ideal place to hang out with your close associates. Due to the absence of life guards, swimming and bathing are not permitted. The fishing folks had set up their colonies on both sides of the beach. In the mid of the twentieth century, the Marina beach easy greatly polluted and damaged with human debris, plastic bags and other contaminants. Recently measures were taken to cleanse and beautify the beach. The underlying statement is a tout to Chennai is incomplete without the Marina beach. You sure feel sorry one day.

The Chennai Corporation, previously known as the Madras Corporation implemented in the year 2008 the Marina renovation project. The main objective of the project was in enhancing the landscaping, seats arrangements, walkway, walkways and lighting all along the boulevard.  The renovation project is carried out on a budget outlay of 259.2 million rupees.

At the back of the Gandhi Statue, a skating ring has been enhanced providing tiles and handrails on the side-line as part of the restoration project. 14 seating galleries have been created between the light house and the Triumph of labor statue. A three kilometer sub road in parallel to the main road from from the Anna square to the Light house without interruption of any pavements.
